Tourism

One of Atlanta’s oldest neighborhoods, Pittsburgh, is located just two and a half miles south of downtown Atlanta. Founded in 1883, it was primarily a black working-class neighborhood. Its name derives from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, which was where many of its residents worked. Many of the homes in the neighborhood are historic shotguns, and even the two-story homes feature a porch.

Although not as cosmopolitan as other parts of Atlanta, Pittsburgh is surrounded by a thriving community that’s worth exploring. Pittsburgh is located near downtown, West End Mall, Grant Park, the Atlanta Zoo, and many other popular attractions. However, if you’re in the mood for a quieter, more relaxing vacation, try a hotel in the nearby suburbs. Whether you’re traveling by car or train, the city is easily accessible by car.

Education

Last September, the Board of Education of Atlanta, Georgia, surprised many people by not extending Superintendent Carstarphen’s contract. The Covid-19 pandemic has turned the entire education system upside down, particularly in school districts with large numbers of poor and minority students. In Atlanta Public Schools (APS), over 75% of students are Black and their households earn less than the median income. With no Superintendent Carstarphen, there’s no denying that the district is suffering.

Throughout the decades, a school serving the black community of Atlanta was built in this historically black neighborhood. In the 1920s, Clark College, the predecessor of Clark Atlanta University, donated land for the school. The school was known as the “best” school for black students in Atlanta, and its teachers included Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. and his family. Throughout the years, the school has served as a training ground for future doctors, professional athletes, and politicians.

Demography

The Pittsburgh neighborhood in Atlanta GA is a working-class community that was established in the 1880s alongside Pegram rail shops. The name was given to the area due to its similarity to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. While it is still a working-class neighborhood, Pittsburgh is a growing community that could see its population increase in the future if property values rise. If that happens, it could result in a renaissance for its legacy residents.

The Pittsburgh neighborhood is home to a high concentration of low-income residents. In fact, its percentage of renters is higher than 93.3% of all neighborhoods in the U.S. It is also home to a higher percentage of African-American residents than any other neighborhood in the city. In addition, 16.3% of Pittsburgh neighborhood renters are children, making it the most economically diverse neighborhood in Atlanta. In addition, Pittsburgh is home to a number of residents who are of Jamaican, Haitian, and African ancestry.

East Atlanta neighborhood is another neighborhood located in the southeastern part of the city. It is bounded by Moreland Avenue to the north, Memorial Drive to the south, Flat Shoals Avenue to the east, and Glenwood Avenue to the west. The neighborhood is home to a diverse population of residents, including many artists and musicians. The area has a vibrant nightlife scene and is known for its eclectic mix of shops and restaurants.
